The two loud positions in AI and education are both wrong. One says the tutor is now free and infinite. The other says AI has no place near learning. The useful position is a division of labour.
What AI is genuinely better at
- 01Infinite patience on the fifth explanation of the same concept.
- 02Generating practice at exactly the right difficulty, on demand.
- 03Reviewing mechanical work instantly - structure, syntax, completeness.
- 04Being available at 11pm when the learner is actually working.
What it is not
It cannot tell you that your work is technically fine and strategically pointless. It cannot decide what you should care about. It cannot make you feel accountable to a person who will notice if you disappear. Those are the mechanisms that make people finish.
AI removes the excuse of not knowing. Only humans remove the excuse of not doing.
How that shaped the program
Live human sessions carry judgment, direction and accountability. AI carries drill, review and availability. Every time we tried to move something across that line for efficiency, completion dropped and we moved it back.
